Team Great Eskape
Great Eskape is a community of adventurers dedicated to expanding our horizons, pushing beyond them, and having fun doing it. We support our members in the pursuit of new adventures and achievements both on and off the race course. When racing, Great Eskape competes primarily within the off-road and mixed surface disciplines of cycling like cyclocross, mountain biking, and gravel/monstercross. A Great Eskape member can be relied on to keep pedaling, to keep pushing, and most of all: to keep the cross and gravel scene weird.
The Great Eskape name began as a personal project of Kevin Sundeen. Together with co-conspirators Tony and Andy, Great Eskape evolved into a creative outlet focused on bicycle adventure in the DC area. The team’s origins trace back to the 2015 cyclocross season, when several of greateskape.com’s contributors began racing events in custom Great Eskape kits created just for the fun of it. The idea for Team Great Eskape congealed at the 2015/16 USA Cyclocross Nationals in Asheville, NC when we decided we wanted to race bikes with a fun-first mentality, and build a team around that idea. With the support of likeminded brands Hand Up and Endless Bikes we began racing as Team Great Eskape for the 2016 season. Since then our numbers have grown and we’ve added new supporters to compliment our long standing relationships, but our fun-first, irreverent ethos hasn’t changed. Today, Great Eskape’s 25 members are still racing, riding, and adventuring in our own unique way.
We pride ourselves in our club’s unique, fun-first culture and support each other across a wide range of athletic, personal, and adventurous aspirations. Part bike team, part social club, part performance artist collective (?) - but all hype.
